"Caro-Nan purses are sturdy baskets with handles, lids, latches, and hand-painted town scenes. Carolyn McDaniel and Nancy Steele, from Jacksonville, Mississippi, created the bags in the 1960s and '70s. The Jackson pair started the purses in 1965, and they were a fad until the early 1980s."
