This is a cameo portrait carved from a full helmet shell. It measures approximately 5 inches long and 3.5 inches wide. My research indicates it to be from the late 1800's to early 1900's and Italian made.
Overall the piece appears to be in great condition. The cameo carving itself has no chips, cracks, or flaking. The rest of the shell appears to free of significant damage or wear. Please see the pictures for further details.
Please note that in the photos the shell is propped up partially by the ruler beneath it. The shell does not stand at that angle on its own without support.
