The 1859 Copper UK Victoria coin (Penny or Halfpenny) features Queen Victoria's "Young Head" portrait by William Wyon on the obverse with the Latin inscription "VICTORIA DEI GRATIA" (Victoria, by the Grace of God), while the reverse depicts Britannia seated with a trident and shield, surrounded by "BRITANNIAR: REG: FID: DEF:" (Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith) and floral emblems (rose, thistle, shamrock). These copper coins circulated until replaced by smaller bronze versions in 1860, with the 1859 penny marking the end of this design type.
